Jordanians are generally very nice and helpful but on the east side (which is the old city) of Amman they are more conservative and they give you dirty looks if you wear shorts which apparently you are not supposed to wear. Additionally you can't sit down next to women on a bus as it is prohibited. Most women I have seen cover their heads but there are plenty of women who do not. Additionally, set women wear burkas and I think that these women are Saudis. There many Saudis here especially at the university and you can distinguish them by their clothing. Also most Jordanians are actually Palestinian and not Hashemites which makes sense considering that there are plenty of Palestinian refugees and Jordan borders Israel/Palestine.
I visited the King Abdullah Mosque today which was the first that I have ever been inside and
it was a really cool experience. Right next to the mosque is a giant church which is intended to give the message that Jordanian Muslims and Christians are living here together as brothers. I was given a tour of the mosque by a very nice man who is from Romania and spoke English very well. We talked about his pilgrimage to Mecca and about an American writer who he often talks to at a local library. I then visited a Palestinian market underneath the mosque.
